Giving Dues To Two Exceptional Musical Bands
When I think back to the greatest decades in music history, the 1970s always make the top of my list. I know that people tend to wrongly put the past on a pedestal, and they definitely do this with music.
When it comes to the music from this decade, they’re right though. This was a special era in the history of music that I really appreciate, and I know that I’m not alone in my opinion about this.
What I like most about the 1970s is the fact that seeds were planted by many bands for the music that’s shaped the modern day scene. Two of the bands that I’ll be focusing on in this article were more influential than people realize.
Perhaps my favorite classic rock band of all-time is The Band, led by Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm, and others. Having gotten their start with Bob Dylan, they quickly came into their own and became one of the greatest of all-time.
The Americana genre has been hugely popular for decades now, and much of it has to do with this band’s sound. They were the pioneers of this music style, and I still believe that no one’s managed to do it as well as they did.
Another often forgotten rock band from the 70s whose name rarely comes up on the list of the decade’s best bands is ELO. Jeff Lynne and the rest of the crew had a truly unique sound, one that few bands have been able to replicate to this day.
You’ve undoubtedly heard some of their music before, and you’ll still hear it quite often to this day. A handful of their songs, like Rollover Beethoven, are featured in movies and commercials all the time.
What I like most about ELO was their originality. By blending futuristic electronic sounds with rock and classical music, they were truly unique for their time and go down as one of the greatest in history.
